Ezikiel 25:17

So I watched Pulp Fiction written and directed by Quentin Tarantino last night and let me start out by saying it was awesome. It had great acting and film work. I tried to stay in critic mode throughout the whole movie but it really just sucks you into it.The film is split up into a few separate stories that are told out of chronological order but in the end everything is tied up really well. The basic plot follows two ganster hit men on their adventures throughout a day and a half. This is made more interesting by the way they are cut and placed out of order.
Major actors/actresses in the cast include:
  • Samuel L. Jackson
  • Bruce Willis
  • John Travolta
  • Uma Thurman
  • Chirsopher Walken
  • and Quentin Tarantino Himself.

The Plot of the movie was great it was interesting and complex enough to keep the audience interested and guessing what was going to happen next. The breaking up of the day and splitting it into different stories is what really makes it interesting. If the movie had simply followed the chronological order of events it would have been interesting but using time as a device really keeps you guessing as to what else is going on in the world while the scene that is currently shown is going on. That makes it very easy to get really drawn into the movie. The dialog was great too. there are so many quotable lines from this movie. none of which can really be mention on this blog because it's for a school project. The title of this is a bible verse quoted a few times in the movie by Samuel L. Jackson and it is just one of the many examples of great and powerful line delivery throughout the whole movie.

The characters throughout the whole movie are believable and real. The only one that stands out as slighlty weak is Mia Wallace played by Uma Thurman. She has a section where her and John Travolta go out on a strictly platonic date. Even though she is portrayed as high out of her mind in the scene her choices and actions don't really make sense even for someone blown out of their skull. That is also one of the slowest parts of the movie. When compared to the rest of the movie that part really drags.

The cinematography and cutting of the movie were good. the camera placement in some scenes made it seem almost as if the audience was right their in the thick of the action while others the audience felt like a fly on the wall.  The only flaw in this was once again in the date scene. Uma Thurman is smoking in one cut then in the next shot not only is she no longer smoking but she proceeds to ask for a cigarette and the light up.  This really was the weakest part of the movie if there had been more going on I probably wouldn't even have noticed but the lack of ... well anything really made that part the only time I found myself thinking of camera work and editing. Everything else worked and played just fine.

With all that said though I still say this movie is awesome.I would recommend it to almost anyone with a few warnings. There is  a lot  of swearing. There is a lot  of drug. and their is a lot  of violence. If you don't mind those things in a movie it is a must see. but if even one of them bugs you in the least then you should skip this one. As for me I'd say this is a great movie worthy of a second viewing even.
